INFORMATION NEEDED: SUSAN CONNELL, HERB CONRAD, PAT COX, BRENETTA HERMAN CRAWFORD, MAUD DAGGETT, JACK DALTON, GWENDA DAVIES, CHRISTOPHER DAVIS, ROBERT DAWE, & BEULAH DEMANTY

Here are ten additional former PSA members which we are seeking information about from family, friends, art dealers, and the collecting public (information includes photographs of artwork and the artist):

SUSAN CONNELL  She is a 1963 graduate of Colorado Women’s College, where she received a BA degree, and a 1965 graduate of the Claremont Graduate School, where she studied under Phil Dike and Paul Darrow and received an MFA degree. She has taught studio classes and art history at schools and in private classes.  We need additional biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work, preferably against a white or neutral background.

HERB CONRAD  Principally a sculptor, we need additional biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of his work, preferably against a white or neutral background.

PAT COX We are looking for photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

BRENETTA HERMAN CRAWFORD A pointillist, she produced miniatures, landscapes, and portraits.  Was active in Ohio and California.  Died in 1956.    We need additional biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

MAUD DAGGETT  Principally a sculptor, Maud died in 1941.  We are particularly looking for photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work, preferably against a white or neutral background.

JACK DALTON Lived from 1921 to 2002. Taught art in Southern California.   We need additional biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of his work,

GWENDA DAVIES  We need additional biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

CHRISTOPHER “KIT” DAVIS  Principally a sculptor living and working in Altadena, we need additional biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of his work, preferably against a white or neutral background.

ROBERT DAWE Received his MFA from San Jose State.  As a painter, was most active in the 1970s.  We need additional biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of his work.

BEULAH DEMANTY  Beulah W. DeManty was born in California on March 6, 1912. Mrs. Demanty was a long-time resident of Lindsay, California and was a registered nurse who painted on the side. She was the past president of the Tulare County Art League. She died on January 17, 2002.  .  We need additional biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

INFORMATION NEEDED: JOAN CARTER, TRUDA CHANDEE, NORMA CHUAN, RAYMOND CHUAN, MARCELA CISZEWSKI, CHARLOTTE I CLAPP, RAYMOND CLARKE, CHARLES CLARKE, & HORACE COLBY

Here are nine more former PSA members which we are seeking information about from family, friends, art dealers, and the collecting public (information includes photographs of artwork and the artist):

JOAN CARTER  Joan Levers Dolores Carter was a cousin of PSA artist Jae Carmichael.  She was born in 1923 and died in 2005. We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

TRUDA CHANDEE Truda ventured out into video art in the 1990s, but we need background information and examples of her non-video work.

NORMA CHUAN Married to Ray.  Active in the 1950s through the 1970s, we need information about Norma Chuan’s art background and examples of his work.

RAYMOND CHUAN Married to Norma.  Active in the 1950s through the 1970s, we need information about Ray Chuan’s art background and examples of his work.

MARCELA CISZEWSKI A ceramic artist and teacher.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work, preferably against a white or neutral background.

CHARLOTTE I CLAPP A painter who lived and worked in Washington as well as in Southern California.  We need background information and examples of her work.

RAYMOND CLARKE  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of his work.

CHARLES CLARKE We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of his work.

HORACE FARNHAM COLBY  Obtained his Masters in Fine Art from Columbia University.  Known for his sculptures.  We need clear photographs of his sculptures, preferably against a white or neutral background.

INFORMATION NEEDED: CHARLOTTE BURGER, MABEL BURNETTE, JOAN CARTER, ALZADA CANNOM, ED CARDINALI, JAMES CARDWELL, GRETA CARLOS, & JACK CARR

Some artist alumni of Pasadena Society of Artists are well known and documented.  Others are not.  Here are eight former PSA members which we are seeking information about from family, friends, art dealers, and the collecting public (information includes photographs of artwork and the artist):

CHARLOTTE BURGER   Born in 1919, Charlotte was active in Oregon and California.  She was known for Semi-abstract oil painting, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s.  All information and documentation is needed about Charlotte.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

MABEL ELIZA BIRD BURNETTE was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on Jan. 31, 1876. Mabel was the wife of John A. Burnette. By the 1940s she had settled in La Jolla, CA and remained there until her demise on Feb. 6, 1956. Her work includes landscapes and seascapes.   All information and documentation is needed about Mabel.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

JOAN LEVERS DOLORES CARTER Cousin of PSA artist Jae Carmichael.  All information and documentation is needed about Joan.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

ALZADA K. CANNOM All information and documentation is needed about Alzada.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

ED CARDINALI  - Eventually settled in the San Pedro area.  Known particularly for his watercolors later in live, Ed was an active painter, teacher, and songwriter.  Photographs of Ed’s work is particularly needed, especially from the 1960s through the 1980s.

JAMES CARDWELL – Although James was an active PSA President, we have no information about his artistic background, nor examples of his work.  James would have been active in the 1960s-1980s.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of his work.

GRETA MARIE CARLOS – Greta was born and lived in Southern California all of her life.  In her last years, she lived in North Carolina where she taught art at Gaston School of the Arts.  We need biographical information and photographs of her work.

JACK CARR – Jack was particularly important in Pasadena as a gallery owner.  However, he also painted.  Although Jack was a PSA President, we have no information about his artistic background, nor examples of his work.  James would have been active in the 1960s-1980s.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of his work.

Some artist alumni of Pasadena Society of Artists are well known and documented.  Others are not.  Here are five former PSA members which we are seeking information about from family, friends, art dealers, and the collecting public (information includes photographs of artwork and the artist):

GERALDINE BEACH   All information and documentation is needed about Geraldine.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

SHARON BELTTARY   All information and documentation is needed about Sharon.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

DIANNE BENSLER   All information and documentation is needed about Dianne.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work. 

HENRY G. (HAL) BIELER, M. D.  Doctor Bieler was famous for promoting food over drugs to cure the body of ailments.  His nutritional beliefs made him run afoul of the AMA.  He was also a gifted painter and sculptor.  Examples of his work are rarely found for sale.  Photographs of the doctor and his artwork are needed as well as background information relating to his art.

LUCY L BILLINGS Taught commercial art classes at McKinley Junior High School and was also known as a painter and etcher.  She was a young woman in the 1920s and continued to produce art until at least the 1930s.   All information and documentation is needed about Lucy.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

 Some artist alumni of Pasadena Society of Artists are well known and documented.  Others are not.  Here are five former PSA members which we are seeking information about from family, friends, art dealers, and the collecting public:

DORIS HENRY ALDEN  Doris H Alden was born in 1904 and died in Irvine, California, April 8, 1999; Ohio University, class of 1926; won award at Women Painters of the West show at Friday Morning Club, Los Angeles Times, February 8, 1949, page B-1; retiring teacher from Muir High School in Pasadena.

BETTY ANDERSON  Active in the 1960s and 1970s, Betty was juried into PSA in 1968.  Likely ran Betty Anderson Studios in South Pasadena and taught art at Holy Family School.

ELEANOR MASON ARMSTRONG  English artist.  Also known as Baroness von Mauch after marrying Baron Alexander von Mauch.  Photographs of paintings are particularly needed.  While a resident of Pasadena in 1917-31, Eleanor ("Evylin") Mason Armstrong had a short-lived art school.  

MAXINE BAGNARO   All information and documentation is needed about Maxine.  We need biographical information, photographs of the artist, and photographs of her work.

BERTHA K BARSTOW  All information and documentation is needed about Bertha.  She was likely a patron of the arts rather than an artist herself.  A Bertha K Barstow award is given in her honor by the Pittsfield Art Museum.  Similar awards were given out by art societies to which Bertha was a member, including PSA.  Probably married to George E. Barstow, and likely lived in Connecticut.
